My dearest pooch pals and non-fur friends,

How’s your summer going?? Mine has been heavenly. After a couple weeks of far too hot weather in the upper 90’s, it cooled down again to the 80’s, rained a bunch, was overcast…and in my opinion was just lovely. Except for maybe the rain. I could have done without all that. My coat gets too heavy when its wet.

Today it’s another scorcher and supposed to be the hottest day of the year. I’ve been hiding out in the mudroom all day, staying away from the evil sun and praying that the crazy yo-yo weather will supply cooler days again soon.

I’ve had some awesome walks lately with friends. And since we’ve almost always run into them in the morning, it’s been cool enough to play until we couldn’t run anymore. There’s also been lots of splashing in the little stream near our house which allows me to not only get wet, but plenty dirty. You should see what happens when my Golden Retriever friends come out of that thing – they’re brown! Guess it’s a good thing I’m a black dog cause all my dirt gets hidden.

Speaking of dirt, I’m thinking about starting a new career. I know it’s not really the best economic climate to go out on a limb, but I think I could have a future as a sand artist. Instead of laying on the floor and taking a nap, I could spread out on a canvas and as my dirt dries and falls off it will create art. Then I’ll get mom to spray some acrylic over it when I’m finished with the masterpiece and into the gallery it goes!

Or maybe I could interest you in a wet Newfie-print painting that slightly resembles the outline of a frog which has gotten run over? After splashing in the creek, I could make tons of these things!

Naturally I would have to find a way to sign my work also. I’m kinda thinking that a dirty nose print could be fitting. They say a dogs nose is much like a human’s fingerprint and no two are exactly alike.

So what do you think? I’m thinking that since I’m 3 now it might be time to start contributing back to the family with more than just my love, drool and endless number of kisses. Not that I would give any less of those things, it just might be nice to get my paws dirty on a more regular basis. Twice a day is just NOT enough!
