Good morning puppy pals!
You might be starting to wonder just how large the farm is that we live on…with all these animals I keep talking about on here…but actually the sheep belong to someone else, these ducks I’m about to mention are wild, and basically we just have a big of a wildlife refuge behind us where we go for walks. It sure does make the walks more interesting than just the same old trees and blades of grass. If mom would take her camera along more often, I’d have even more cool nature stuff to show you all the time. Guess I’ll have to work on her…
Over the weekend, we were out walking near the newly expanded stream and stumbled upon 3 ducks. These guys and gal just migrated back here recently…but what’s kinda interesting is that it used to be just a male and a female duck…and now there are two males and one female. Not sure what sort of things they have going on there — maybe it’s some sort of duck cult and they will start multiplying each year!
But seriously, these ducks are really cool and they want nothing to do with the other ducks in town that live on the river (not this stream). I can”t blame them for wanting their privacy. It does make them look slightly more guilty of wrongdoing, though.
I was really fascinated by the ducks and there might have been more photos if I hadn’t rushed over to greet them as soon as I noticed they were there. Apparently they don’t like that and they all flew away. But because these guys are rather domesticated, they were actually back in the same spot within 5 minutes. I was restrained while photos were taken but I thought maybe a shot of me next to them would be nice. The ducks had other ideas.
Mackenzie was not so crazy about all the duck hunting. Or maybe this photo was taken after I’d been wading in the water and shook off all over her. The reactions from humans when you throw water all over them is just too good to miss: “Agh! Ayla, no. Stop! Enough. Just sit down!” All that emotion and excitement just shows that they really, really love it! I mean who doesn’t like to be showered in water, dirt and drool on a regular basis?
I would also like to bring your attention to the green stuff floating in the stream. I hear it’s called algae but I’m certain it’s the Devil. It doesn’t look right, it doesn’t smell right and, to be honest, it just makes me downright nervous. I don’t know how or why it’s there, but I would like to state for the record that it should be removed. It’s starting to take over the stream, for crying out loud. And I don’t want to have to run through that stuff. Ick.
Mom thinks the algae is really thriving because they took down most of the trees that shaded the stream on one side (to expand) and there is tons of fertilizer runoff going in to this stream from fields all along this stream. I’m starting to wonder if I should really be drinking this water as often as I do…but it sure is refreshing on a warm day.
At any rate, I hope you’re enjoying your week and having some nice spring weather. It’s been about 70 here and when you’re wearing fur all day, that’s HOT! Thankfully we have lots of cool floors to lay on and when things just get to unbearable, there’s also the portable air conditioner. Ah, yes. I’m ready for summer!
Until next time, keep your ears scratched and your nose to the wind.
Kisses,
Ayla
that is the cutest pic of Ayla! one happy dog:)
It’s funny that we’ve gotten so many good shots of her lately. I always joke that she thinks the pictures will steal her soul, like the Aboriginese…but I guess she must be just slowing down a lot lately. She’s still not crazy about sitting still for photos…but we’ve managed to get her to at least look at us with the camera in hand vs. only looking the other direction 🙂
