Hello puppy pals,
How’ve you been doing? Here at our house it has been hot, hot, HOT! Thankfully today it’s just a little bit overcast so it’s been a bit more bearable…but I’ve been begging mom for ice cubes every 5 minutes to get through the days. When is winter coming back?
Today I want to share some info about a site we just discovered this week for folks in the US. Whenever mom and dad go somewhere on vacation, I usually get to come with them because we just drive. But sometimes they go further away and I’m not allowed to come along, so I have to stay with other people or at a kennel. I’m not too opposed to the kennel because there are lots of dogs to play with. But Newfies are really family dogs, so we really prefer to have a human around all day. That’s why having someone that just comes by every now and then to walk and feed me is also not an option for us. I would be crazy lonely cooped up in the house by myself all day!
DogWalker.com is a directory of dog walkers which I have to say is pretty ingenious. If you’ve ever tried to locate a dog walker or pet sitter in your area before, you know it can be tricky. Thankfully more and more of them have realized how important it is to have a website which has made the search a little bit easier.
“The site has grown tremendously over the last year and a half, which has been exciting to watch,” said the creator Elliot told mom. “Not only can people find a local dog walker, but they are also able to learn about how to become a dog walker, start a dog walking service, or find a job as a dog walker. In addition, there are many tools for dog owners to find local dog walkers and even learn how to better walk their own dog. The site gets over 12,000 visits a month now, which is up from virtually none a little over 18 months ago.”
A few things I’d really like to see added on the site are the ability to recommend and review pet walking services that you’ve used. And a few icons in the search results listing that shows if the firm also does pet sitting (and if it’s in-house or otherwise) or other services the company might offer.
Growth is certainly on the horizon for this dog lover’s company. “Once DogWalker.com started growing, I bought DogGroomers.com, and it’s a similar resource.”
Go check it out yourself and see what sort of dog walkers are available in your area. When your family travels, do you get to go with them? Or do you stay behind with a neighbor, friend or pet sitter?
