We used to pay for satellite TV. And then we realized it really sucked. For about a year we actually had no TV at all…and it was fantastic. Of course for something like the Olympics we’d still consider hooking up the TV but the daily stuff is just bad. There are a lot of American shows dubbed over, but that’s just unbearable to watch, especially when you know what the people really sound like.
And then you get shows like what we’ve been watching tonight: Die Sonia & Dirk Show. This show premiered tonight on RTL which I guess was supposed to be funny but was just downright mean at times. These two TV hosts who are always annoying (especially the troll guy) bring people on TV with embarassing photos, videos and basically just make complete fools of these people. It’s like a roast for these people on national television and no one really knows why they’re being punished. They do happen to send these people on trips to places like Dubai and the US afterwards…but the emotional damage they’ve likely suffered will take far longer to get over.
They did do a few other things that were considerably less embarassing like having a guy jump around in a bungee suit dressed like a mouse to win money (€4000 in 1 minute) or moving rice into a bowl with chopsticks for 30 minutes in order to get a prize. And I would probably have gone along with stuff like that…but what was with putting some of these people’s most embarassing photos ever all over the TV for the world to see? Did they do something mean to you? It was just a bit over the top and totally not funny.
I was flipping around channels when I saw those two – I actually thought they were quite funny when they moderated that jungle show with D-celebrities, but then they deserve to be made fun of. Glad I didn’t watch the show, I watched Idiocracy instead (after you recommended it, thanks!). Great flick.
Happy weekend to you 🙂

Hi Kate,
I don’t know…I just find his suits so incredibly obnoxious…like eye cancer. You definitely didn’t missing anything.
Glad you enjoyed Idiocracy. I think we’re going to have to revisit it again soon… 🙂
