I’m sitting here on the couch, Stefan at my side with the munchkin snoozing away on his chest. We’re watching Band of Brothers with my mom, just having finished stuffing ourselves with chicken quesadillas. Stefan and I used the huge shower in the guest room finally but not in the way we thought we would. We washed the dog in there for the first time…and it was down-right enjoyable. She never once tried to bolt…something she always tries at least once every time we wash her in the tub. In fact, she sat fairly patiently during the entire experience and just let us wash her. It was a major breakthrough.

In fact, I have to give her some extra credit lately cause she’s just been a fantastic dog the last couple weeks. When she turned two, she started calming down a lot…but now, she’s just about the perfect dog. She still has her moments of mischief – don’t get me wrong. Like today, I walked by the office and noticed a little teddy bear from the tree on the floor along with a cat toy from the kitchen table. Who might have left those items on the rug? I wonder. But for those things that really matter, Ayla has been a perfect pooch. She’s always watching out for Mackenzie but knows to be gentle and calm around her; she manages to control her urges to jump on people even when she’s super excited to see them; and tonight she even waited by the front door after she came inside so I could dry her off…without me asking.

Yes, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. Anyone who has a Newf knows that you can never fully trust them. They are generally too smart for their own good…but at least she’s not a Landseer 🙂
