There are few times when one can find ways to save money here in Germany, but apparently having a kid is one of them. I am beginning to notice that there are a few stores that will give new and expecting parents special discounts and sometimes even free stuff. Excellent! So far I’ve only stumbled across two, but I’m hoping more will develop ๐
The Real “Hallo Baby” Program
They promise savings up to 150 euros but we’ll have to wait and see. We registered a couple weeks ago but haven’t gotten anything from them yet. Maybe they wait to send you the welcome package until the baby is born…who knows. Coupons and lots of tips and info. I’ll let you know when we get it if it’s worth the effort or not.
UPDATE 08/21/08: Got my “welcome letter” today. Not much to write home about yet. Two coupons came with: 20% off baby clothing (excluding shoes) and 15% off Nivea body Creme lotion. Well, I might use the clothing one…but the lotion. Not likely.
Babies”R”Us Gift Service
Register for gifts with their gift list service and get a free gift plus a 5% discount on everything you buy off your list. So if you’re lucky, people will look up the list and actually buy you things you want…or maybe just give you gift certificates or money. And everything you want left-over, you get a 5% discount on. Which sadly, by German standards, is a pretty decent sale price. So I say go in there, scan everything in site and then buy like crazy… Cause if you’re going to buy the stuff anyway, you can probably take the time to scan it. You get a free pack of Pampers diapers also…and maybe someone will actually go buy you something from the list before you make purchases yourself ๐
