It’s been rather overcast today which was not necessarily a bad thing since we wanted to take Ayla with us to Grado for the shopping excursion without it being too hot.

We found the market we were looking in for full of fresh local produce and other local products and bought quite a few things including buffalo mozzarella fresh from the farm, a nice chunk of Parmesan, salami, prosciutto and other very tasty stuff. We also went out on a limb and picked up a 5 liter jug of Pinot Bianco wine so we’ll see what that’s like later when we grill. We had to go to a local grocery store to get some steaks and a few other things which turned out to be more difficult than we’d expected. They have lunch break periods such as the “siestas” in Spain and it just so happened that we were trying to shop in the middle of this time frame. But thankfully we found a store which is part of a large chain of stores around Europe and were able to buy everything else we needed for our dinner feast.

Afterwards we decided to let Ayla try swimming for the first time in the ocean. It’s actually just a small bay which doesn’t have large waves or anything like that but Ayla was more than happy with it. Since she really has only been swimming once before this, we wondered if she’d be a bit apprehensive of the water. Neither hubby nor I were getting in because it was a bit cool and that meant if she was going to retrieve something, she’d have to be doing it alone.

We brought a water Frisbee with us and she played fetch with it a few times. Unfortunately, after about the 4th throw, our friend decided he would throw it for her and ended up throwing it way too far from the shore. She was a bit intimidated by the distance and refused to go get it…and we couldn’t talk the thrower into getting it either so it became a casualty of the trip. We thought we might bet lucky and it would drift to shore eventually but it just never happened…but perhaps some other critter will find it and enjoy playing with it or using it as a life raft (a crap or something perhaps lol).

We wanted to wash Ayla off after the walk since we didn’t want the salt water drying in but that turned out to be a much larger mission than we expected. The campsite didn’t have hoses on their shower heads and they were affixed to the wall rather high up. Thankfully there are doors on the shower cabins or we never would have gotten Ayla to stay inside there. She would barely stand still under the water and soaping her up became a futile effort…but we did at least seem to rinse her off so at least we accomplished something.

All in all it’s been a pretty good day. Some people moved in close to us on the site and they have a huge Great Dane…but unfortunately they won’t let him play with Ayla, much like most of the other people we have come across so far, regardless of what country they’re coming from. I guess that just means we have to find other ways to tire Ayla out. 😉
