There’s been a common trend popping up around a lot of the blogs I read…people have been addressing some of the more interesting search terms that have led to their blog and I figure it’s about time to get that party started here.
So with no further ado here are the past week’s searches:
- How to pour a foundation
This actually came up more than once with several variations…and I will preface all this by saying that if you are considering pouring a foundation for anything – DON’T. π You can read more about our own experience here. One tip we will stress – if at all possible, have the concrete poured and the schlep it. Using bagged concrete mix is truly the pits, even with a concrete mixer. This was our slab right after we finished pouring it.
No but seriously. We found a very good article about how to pour your own foundation on Buildeazy.com which we followed rather closely and came out with a wonderful slab…which nearly managed to make completely straight.
- Gardena microdrip
Unfortunately we don’t have a whole lot to say on this subject just yet but we are planning to set up our watering system in the garden this weekend. It’s been in the 80s here and should even be close to 90 today and going to the back to water 2-3 times a day is not really something we have time for. Of course I would love if that was one of the only things I had to worry about…but alas I’m getting sidetracked.
We will be setting up the microdrip system throughout our raised beds and also within the greenhouse. We have already laid the initial hose for 2-3 mini-sprinklers in each raised bed and will lay piping so that we can have a water tap at or inside the greenhouse. Then we will have access to fill watering cans as well as a split off for the watering system which will be around the greenhouse itself. There should be much more information to come on this subject π - Won’t be single for long vodka cream pasta
Ah yes, someone on the quest for Rachel Ray’s excellent recipe! My mom loves it although we still haven’t tried it. But since the stove won’t be hooked up until tomorrow, we still have a good excuse. You can find the recipe here: You Won’t Be Single For Long Vodka Cream Pasta - workshop wood setting up
Hmm, this is a very good search and one I think Stefan has done a few times recently. We haven’t really gotten much started ourselves although we do have a bench in place (which will need to be expanded at some point) and we have quite a few tools already which we talked about here.I know hubby was also scouring the internet for books recently so perhaps he will list a few in the near future on the house blog. For a few more tips here is an overview of setting up a workshop from White Mountain Design.
- Tomato stands
We have a great DIY project for these! Mother Earth News provides a really nice stand which can be used to tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, beans and perhaps a few other things. They also are hinged on the top so they can be folded together and easily stored in your garage or storage shed for the winter. Although they are pretty large, I think they sorta look like little oil derricks which I find to be very cute (I am from Texas after all). So with a few easy modifications you could have your own mini oil field, minus all the nasty oil spill feeling. Who knows, you might even be able to use them around Christmas time and decorate them for your front yard π
