Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse fish and pat dry
Combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Stir egg into dry ingredients. Gradually mix in beer until a thick batter is formed.
Lay fish fillet into batter and use a spoon to cover both sides with batter as necessary, then drop one at a time into hot oil. Fry fish, turning once, until both sides are golden brown (about 3 minutes). Drain on paper towels, and serve warm.
