We got up this morning and made the 120 km journey from Belvedere to Punta Sabbioni. Punta Sabbioni is a 40 minute ferry ride from Venice and therefore we figured it would be the best place to spend the night without us having to worry about things being stolen from the trucks in Venice, finding a decent camping spot and so on.

We had picked out a nice camping spot in the area but we once again had forgotten about the afternoon break from 1 pm – 3 pm and of course arrived about 5 minutes to one. The campgrounds were already closing down the gates but it turned out that it didn’t matter anyway because the campsite only accepted reservations for a minimum of 2 nights. Since we only wanted to stay one, the mission to find a place which was open (because we wanted to be able to park our cars inside the grounds since we were planning to spend the rest of the day in Venice) AND allowed dogs. We saw another place right down the road, but it also was closed.

So we decided we would travel to ferry departure site and try to find a campsite as close to there as possible. This drive only took us about 5 minutes and we found a site not far away. Unfortunately, they didn’t allow dogs. So feeling quite annoyed and discouraged, we started to pile back in the trucks to try the next location we found on a sign…but the girl at the reception called us back and gave us a map with quite a few other campsites listed on it and told us which would accept dogs. Then she asked how long we were staying. When we said it was only for one night, she told us to try the RV campsite located almost next door.

Not getting our hopes up, we drove over to the place and were happy to hear that he had no problems at all with dog and we could drive right in now. He also told us when the ferries were leaving which just happened to be about 20 minutes from then and then every 30 minutes after that.

So now we are freshening ourselves up a bit and will be heading over to the ferry docks in a few minutes. We’ve read that Ayla will have to wear a muzzle on the 40 minute trip which we’re sure she’s not happy about and neither are we really, but rules are rules. She’s not been too crazy about wearing the muzzle when we’ve “practiced” with her and since it’s rather warm out, we hope she won’t have any problems. But at least the trip is relatively short and it should be very interesting to see how she does in a large city with so many people around.
