As many of you know, we live on an old farm here in Germany, built in 1834. Air conditioning is not really big in Germany and only available in newer homes. Having gone from Newf friendly weather in the high 50’s last week to the high 80’s today. Tomorrow it’s supposed to get even hotter – mid 90’s. Not a good progression for our Newfie.

While at the hardware store today we decided to take a look at portable air conditioners. The cool beds we have ordered still haven’t gotten here and as a matter of fact, took 3 weeks to ship out after we ordered them. Now we have to wait for the package to make its way across the Atlantic.

We found a unit that is perfect to cool down the living room at a relative decent price, EUR229. It’s a portable unit with a hose that runs out the window. Not necessarily an interior designers dream or the most energy efficient way to cool a room, but hey all for the comfort of the Newfie, right?!?

As we set the unit up and gave it a test run, ayla immediately moved in front of it, sticking her face as close to the duct as possible. She didn’t stick around long though, the room was still hotter than the she liked, and the wooden floor isn’t nearly as cool as the tile in the kitchen. The room is starting to cool down quite nicely though and I bet by this evening when it’s time for us humans to catch some couch time she will be happy and snoozing in front of her very own A/C.

By the way, we are quite excited about it as well….
