The man who invented the döner kebab died this week. Sad news indeed. But as an almost tribute to him, we found out our little village is finally going to have a döner stand of its own.
We went out today to grab a cable for our new phone system (which we still haven’t got working but will take on anew tomorrow) and noticed that the shop that used to be our dry cleaners, now has a sign up announcing a new döner store.
Woohoo! Our town is officially on the map now.
If you’ve never been to Germany, a döner kebab is a piece of flat bread sliced open, then loaded up with meat shaved off a huge skewer, vegetables and lathered in yogurt sauce. Each store has their own secret recipes for the sauce, some adding in garlic, and you might get some picked cabbage also. Very, very good stuff!
Hopefully this new place will be one of the better ones…but any döner is better than none – especially when it’s within walking distance. Then we can split up our business between there and the Thai imbiss when we’re too tired to cook.
I can’t make myself like doner. I don’t like the grease that they press the bread in. Give me a real shwarma any day.
I’d be living at that Thai imbiss, myself.
Oooooohhh, I was introduced to the Doner when my husband and I arrived at 5 a.m. at the Munich airport and it was the only food stand open.
I was immediately addicted! Thank goodness almost everytown we stayed in had a doner stand!
Love your blog, keep up the amazing work!
