The name of the game this week is colorful. When you’ve got kids at home, I think this assignment becomes a bit easier. Because honestly, my wardrobe and things around our house are not so full of color. But everything that Mack has is color galore. And I think it’s quite important that we find a way to not only bring color into our lives, not only with pretty things that are bright and bold, but with our actions too.
Mel Brooks once said, “If you’re quiet, you’re not living. You’ve got to be noisy and colorful and lively.”
It made me think quite a bit. And there’s a lot we can learn from kids when it comes to be noisy, colorful and lively…
If we’re just living our lives, doing the usual day-to-day stuff, stuck in the mundane…is that really a life? Shouldn’t you be filling your days by doing activities and a job you love? Okay, maybe you don’t have to love every single second of every day — because let’s face it, there’s just some not so fun stuff that has to be taken care of as well. But if your life is 90% yuck and only 10% awesome, you are not really living life.
Now don’t get me wrong; I know you can’t just sit around all day doing nothing because it seems like fun. I’m pretty sure that in no time, you’ll be sick of that as well and screaming to do anything that involves getting out of the house. You’ve got to find the balance that allows you to hold a job that you love (whether it’s working for someone else or following dreams to do your own thing), helps keep your mind stimulated, your body active, your love life flourishing and money coming in the door. Should be easy enough, right? π
So many times in life, we settle into the comfortable and forget to challenge ourselves on a regular basis. Let yourself be a kid again, get on the floor and roll around, make a mess and don’t worry about the cleanup until later, dance in the warm summer rain, play freeze tag with your kids…
Whatever it is you do, remember to live each life in the moment, focus on the now and note the baby steps are required to get where you’re going so you can make the journey more fun along the way.
fun colorful peanuts! I wasn’t sure what they were at first when I saw your thumbnail – good marco shot.
Very colorful!
I don’t know what those things are, but I’m pretty sure my little girl would love them! Reminds me of playing with packing peanuts as a kid. Great job of capturing colorful.
They are called PlayMais. Made by a German company but I think they sell them all over the world. We got a HUGE tub of them from a friend for Christmas and my 3yo LOVES emptying them out everywhere to make her own “ball pit.”
They come with instructions to make all sorts of people, animals, houses, plants, trees, etc. You cut them apart with a plastic knife (included) and use a little bit of water to get them to stick together. They are totally fantastic for kids. My favorite thing to give as birthday gifts right now. π
Love that fourth one. So much fun (and color!).
I love the closeup of the colored filler. Great shots! Your line about letting yourself be a kid again is so true. I have to remind myself of that every once in a while. I remember one of the first times I had to tell myself to take it easy, relax and enjoy the moment… I was in college at the time and headed back to my dorm in the pouring rain. My shoulders were scrunched up to my ears, I was hunched under my umbrella and trying to walk as quickly as possible. I realized their was no way I could make it back with out getting wet, so I could either keep up the stressful scrunch-hunch walk… or… I could enjoy the moment. Needless to say I ended up dancing my way back to the dorm in the rain. Best afternoon ever π
I love your story of the rain! Going to school in Miami, we got really used to torrential downpours in the middle of the day. Sometimes you just have to let the rain fall and make the most of it π
Those things look so fun!
#4 is my favorite, too. Where can I get colored peanuts? How cool!
Great post! The colors are beautiful and fun, and you’ve given us a lot to think about.
Hi Tiffany,
Thank you for commenting on my Polish Pottery photo on “You capture” today.
Your colorful peanuts are so cute and look like lots of fun to play with.
Your right, live in the moment and make lots of colorful noise.

Great pics – loving the colourful fun of life!
