“Life is like a good black and white photograph, there’s black, there’s white, and lots of shades in between.” – Karl Heiner
I haven’t been doing much editing to black & white lately, perhaps because the days of the winter were so gloomy and grey that I didn’t want to head into that direction. But the last couple of weeks (and especially the past weekend) have just been gorgeous spring days here. And since spring is officially just around the corner, I’m holding on to it for dear life!
The phases of the weather influence my moods quite a bit. But perhaps it’s also related to what is going on in my life as well. The hours of my day are all blurred together and form a hodge podge of projects, posts, meals, requests for attention/help and so on. It’s usually pure chaos to an outsider…and sometimes even to myself. But my life is hardly at a stage where it’s all just going to be black and white — nor do I think I’d want it to be all laid out for me!

Doesn’t she look like a little dwarf in this outfit? Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s off to work we go…. π :||: Β ISO 200 | 50mm | f5.0 | 1/125 sec.
My original thought this week was to take shots of things black and things white — I was taking the assignment pretty literally I guess. So I managed to get Ayla to sit still for a millisecond (black) and this white crocus. Then I realized most people would be sharing purely black and white shots, so Lightroom helped me out.
Whatever the color or shade of your life right now, embrace it. If you want to be somewhere else in life, sit down today and write your goals. Then work backwards to create baby steps to get you where you want to be. Use tiny tasks, like sending someone an email, or reading a book (or even just 5 pages of a book), to get you where you want to be. Life may come in many shades, but you can always put on tinted sunglasses and make it a different world. π
Last week, Beth decided to move You Capture to a new day of the week: Mondays. And I have to say that I can definitely live with that. Quite honestly, I will take it on any day of the week, as long as it’s here to stay. I’m noticing the last few days how little time I’m spending behind the camera lately, and I just don’t like it! π
I really like the capture of the dog. The light hits the hairs on her head and nose just right and lights up her eye. This dog begs to be petted!
Excellent words I needed to read today. Thank you for sharing and great pics.:-)
What a thoughtful and insightful post and then you complete it with such beautiful photos. It’s hard to pick a favorite because they’re all so good – but Ayla – with the little smile? That’s the money shot!!!
Nice shots! Great detail on that dog!
I was thinking of taking pictures of black and white things too, which is why I picked the salt & pepper, but then decided to convert to black & white in PSE. It was easier, I guess.
I don’t think life will ever be clearly black and white, no matter what age or stage you are at, but I figure that’s what keeps it interesting.
Keep shooting, you take beautiful pictures.
Thank you so much. You Capture has really helped open my eyes when it comes to photography. I really enjoy it…it helps you see the world in a different way and slow down a bit. π
Life is always changing, right? You just never know what make happen next. That’s what makes it fun π
These are great shots! I really do like black and white.
