Today was a rather eventful day. Apparently Ayla ate something she shouldn’t have again while she was hanging out outside. Since she’s usually very good when she goes out there and doesn’t bother anyone, we don’t have any qualms about her just lounging in the yard when we are in the house doing something else. Perhaps when it gets warmer outside we will be more inclined to join her out there but at the moment, with the rain and cold, it’s just not going to happen.

Anyways, after lunch she was outside for a little while and when she came in later, she threw up all over the carpet in the living room…which happens to be the only room that she normally has access to with carpet in it. Glad to see the cats have already taught her this great trick because who wants to be bothered with cleaning up puke from the tile when they can have so much more fun getting it out of the carpet. It appeared that she was eating a lot of grass or some sort of bush so we can only guess that was the cause of the vomitting. Afterwards she was happy as a lark, playing and enjoying herself and no problems with dinner so I guess we need to watch her a bit more when she’s out there…and perhaps teach her to puke outside for a change.

Later in the afternoon, hubbers and I were in the kitchen and looked out the door to see Ayla standing on the patio table and licking the tiny bit of water off it that had accumulated during the past few days of rain. Talk about surprising. It’s not that she hasn’t tried to get up there before…but she normally has some sort of goal to getting up there…like getting the fly swatter off the table which is apparently great fun to play with and who wouldn’t want to eat bug guts…hmm, maybe that was our puking culpit? Anyways, it was too good not to get a picture of and thankfully she didn’t try to jump off or anything before we got her. These moments are precisely why parents of furkids and non-fur kids must have a camera around at all times…but you don’t want to become a counter surfing victim and watch your new camera get dropped on the floor and become a chew toy for a slobbery mouthed Newfie so be careful where you leave it.

On top of all that other excitement, Ayla got to have a bit of up close and personal time with both cats today. We were doing some web programming and everything is located in our office. The office used to be downstairs in a little “apartment” at the front of our house but we decided after a while that the room was just completely impractical for our desks and not pleasant to work in at all so we moved the office upstairs where it fits perfectly and is great to work in. Unfortunately since the puppy is not supposed to walk stairs for the first year or two, this decision to move the office a month before we even thought about getting her wasn’t the perfect decision. But nonetheless we’re leaving it where it is. So we took puppers upstairs to the office to attempt to get some work done and of course both of the cats were in there since that is one of their usual hang outs during the day. They were both hissing at her and Mary chased her around the room a bit and after about 30 minutes of chaos and one accident on the rug, we decided to take the puppy back downstairs and if she couldn’t behave herself, just switch off the work flow between us until it was finished. Sometimes there really aren’t any dull moments in the day, especially when you’re trying to integrate to pissed off kitties and a goofie Newfie.
