I picked up Ayla’s two Canine Cooler beds on Friday and just haven’t gotten around to posting about them yet…but here goes. We’ve only opened the large bed so far because the smaller one is actually intended for my truck so we can travel with Ayla and she hopefully won’t get quite as warm. And it’s just too warm in general for her to travel anywhere with me so I’m leaving it packed up for now.
Ayla helped us on Friday when we unpacked the bed and were getting it set up to be used. You need to unroll it and let it air out for a few minutes before the water filling process begins. Of course Ayla thought she needed to lay on it first just to make sure it was ok.
Then came the fun of filling this thing with about 10 gallons of water. It’s surprising how much water will actually fit in there. But it actually wasn’t terribly heavy with all that inside it…just not very easy to carry. We put it in front of the air conditioner in the living room but it’s not really been so hot lately so I finally moved it into the kitchen in front of Ayla’s toy box. I let a bit of water out of the bed before then as well because it was very sloshy and you would usually slide on it when you first stepped on the bed which is not how it’s supposed to function and generally means it is too full.
Ayla has used it a few times now but only for short periods of time. I think that at the moment it’s just not hot enough for her to be interested and the weather had been pretty nice so she just wants to be outside. It would have been nice to have the beds here a few days earlier when it was in the 90s but at least we have them now for the future…and the cats like them too so at least some one is using them π
I can’t wait to see if they work for her in the heat.
Hello! The cooler bed looks soo cool! Now Amy is wishing she has one of those, when I forget to turn on the AC before leaving for work!
Cheers

Cooler beds, hmmm. Hope the water doesn’t turn lukewarm. Can you fill them with ice? Do they have those little stay cool crystals inside?
Hope you have a great week! Quit eating that poison, Ayla!
Hey everybody,
So I do like the bed a bit more than before…but the weather has just been so nice & cool lately that I haven’t been staying inside much. But when my humans are in the kitchen, I’m often on my cool bed.
Newfs of Hazards – There are no crystals that I know of inside the bed but there is a special foam that must have some kind of heat reducing properties…and it’s memory foam too. You can put the beds in a freezer or fridge to cool them down. I would imagine you could put ice in it as well but you’d just have to keep it to the sides or have a pretty lumpy bed. The hole for the water would certainly be large enough for ice cubes though. My ‘rents also put ours in front of the vents for the air conditioner when it was really warm so I could get the cool breeze and have the cool bed to lay on.
And thanks for the input on stopping the poison eating…the problem is that it’s just so darn tasty! π
Newfie kisses!
Ayla

Wow. Water beds for dogs! I should get one of these for my dogs! π
Btw, Ayla is a beauty!
I have one of these for my own pillow. I expect in a few months to have a Newf again (after four years without), and it’s hot in North Carolina, so I think this is a great idea for the dog. I have one tip for you. I read of problems with the foam stuff inside growing mildew. I think burping all the air out may be key, but I added waterbed conditioner to the water for extra insurance.

Hi Kathy,
Congrats on adding a Newfie back to your family. They’re just great additions to the family, aren’t they? Are you getting a puppy? Fun times π
I’ve never heard about them getting mildew but thanks very much for that tip. Certainly will have to get some water bed conditioner and make preventative measures!
