Hi puppy friends!
Hope you had a fabulous Fourth of July weekend (if you’re in the US) and a lovely regular, plain old weekend if you’re living elsewhere like me. Actually, we’re having a pretty exciting week because we are at Oma & Opa’s house and there are a bunch of people there that I’ve never met before. But I LOVE new people.
And because it’s so hot and my humans wanted me to be looking my best, I had a mega beauty styling session to finally get rid of all of my dead undercoat and a bunch of rastas I’ve been growing. I was sad to see my matted friends go but since it’s been in the 90’s here, it was necessary. I also got my belly shaved which has me looking very thin and pretty sexy if I dare to go there. Normally you wouldn’t shave a Newfie in any way because our undercoat can grow back kinda crazy sometimes, but it’s always nice to have some wild stuff trimmed back to keep odors at bay.
Now before I show you a photo of what I look like “after,” I have to warn you that my floof has been tampered with. The groomer has never trimmed a Newfie before, although she knows generally what we are supposed to look like, but she thought I would look younger with my head floof shaped up just a little bit. And her scissors were faster than mom’s protests. I have to admit that I think it takes years off of my face along with my new ear ‘do. What do you think? I have to admit I was a bit shy about showing my look for the camera…I hear it steals your soul!
I’ve totally been sporting my awesome new look all over town, strutting down the street when we go for walks in the morning. Unfortunately it’s hotter that Hades in the evenings so we’ve cut back to one walk again…but I really don’t mind skipping out on the blazing sun.
Overall, I am totally thrilled with my new haircut and I didn’t even freak out at the electric clippers or the scissors. And let me tell you, I am not a fan at all of snip-snipping around my ears. But I was brave and well behaved during the entire 3 hours of torture. Actually, it was a two hour session and a second 1 hour session a few days later…but I think mom is now going to insist I also sit still for her while she brushes me daily. I have shown her that I can actually tolerate brushing. Dang.
In case you happen to be in our area (postal code 61137) and need a good dog groomer (but you better let me know if you ARE around here so we can get together and PLAY), you should check out mine. She even comes to your house which is super cool! Mobiler Hundefriseur Pellicula – Tel. 06187-9070990
Stay cool and don’t forget to drool!
Ayla
I’m still having a lot of trouble sitting still for more than 20 mins combing at a time – and I cannot STAND the buzzing of the clippers. My Mom has to clip out those dreadlocks carefully one at a time.
Mom did get a cool new comb though looks like a long rake with sharp blades that really helps cut through and untangle the lesser mats before they turn into dreadlocks – so hopefully it won’t get this bad again.
I think if I let her, she’d shave me from ear to ear (under my chin)
Yours furrily,
Buddy
It actually took 2 people plus the groomer to keep Ayla in place most of the time…but she wasn’t fighting us, just not really wanting to stay put. When I brush her myself, Ayla doesn’t like to sit still for more than 30 minutes at a time. So I try to pack in as much brushing as I can when she’s letting me brush her and do a few sessions a day if things are getting bad. This time around, it was just too much for us. After me being out of brushing commission for a month, things just got crazy.
Ayla actually gets her nails Dremmel-ed by us and has never really seemed to mind the buzzing. She hates the scissors on the other hand. But this is also a dog that adores the vacuum cleaner and actually rolls over to let you vacuum her belly or her face. At the lowest setting of course…
We used to have one of those rake mat cutter things and it was FANTASTIC! Unfortunately it got lost sometime last year and I haven’t replaced it. Maybe I’ll find it buried one day in the courtyard 🙂
She shaving was really our last resort…but with it being as hot as it is here now, it seems like it was a really good idea. She looks much more comfortable now and thankfully it’s not all that apparent that we scalped her belly when she’s sitting. After it grows back I’ll see how I feel about doing something like that again…hopefully never again this short though!
