Where are we going to use these new handles when we finally finish doing to them whatever we’re going to do?
We were recently discussing this and hubby had the interesting idea of using different handles for each door. At the moment we’re partially there.
In our bedroom upstairs and the extra room, there are two old handles already. I kinda forgot they were there. The new handles wouldn’t work there at all anyway because they have an old locking mechanism on the back of the door.
This is the bedroom door.
This is the extra room door. And as you can see, they are just slightly different. We have no clue how old they are but we figure they are relatively old…and they at least look and seem old which will do until we are informed otherwise. 🙂
This is the lock box for the door in our bedroom. We could take it off but we’d either not be able to lock the door then or have to put in a new lock…neither of which really enthuses us.
The bathroom upstairs, the bathroom downstairs and the living room have terrible ugly, cheap metal door handles that just detract from the house. I actually thought for a while that they may have a bit of value…but they seem to be relatively new and you can buy some just like them for €3.99 at the home improvement store. Blech. So those definitely have to go.
There’s a beaut like the others on the inside of the front door as well, just slightly larger. I have no clue what we’re going to replace that with. To be honest I think I’d like to replace the handle inside and outside because the outside handle doesn’t open the door. You need a key to open it, a very common practice here in Germany. But I would like to have a bit more security against locking myself out of the house…and since someone would have to get over or through our front first and then past our menacing-looking Newf, I’m thinking it’s not so vital that this door locks on its own.
At the moment I’m kinda figuring we may end up using the new door handles in the bathroom downstairs. There are actually two doors in there so it might be nice for them to have matching handles…but I guess it all depends on how well we can get them cleaned up in the first place.
I like the idea of having different handles on all the doors. Nice touch.
🙂 It’s definitely growing on us. And since most of the house is just a bit crooked then why should it have all matching door handles, right? It just doesn’t seem proper lol
