I think I have finally figured it out. The cats don’t dislike Ayla because she’s loud or slobbers a lot…or even because she wants to play with them and is always dirty….I think they believe she is an animal killer.
Our cats have been really holding their ground lately and at the moment they are BOTH in the room next to my office. This is really a major thing because they don’t come downstairs all that much lately. Ayla has caught one or the other of them in the bathroom lately (where their toilet is also) which causes a massive ruckus…and generally has to end in me going upstairs to hold the dog while the cat dashes from the bathroom into the bedroom.
I will say that Ayla has gotten quite good about not chasing after them if she happens to see them wandering in the house though. She will stop and watch them…and stare intently…but she doesn’t usually start walking after them (yes, walking) until they have gone back up the stairs. If she happens to catch them in the landing upstairs though, it’s a rather different story. And if one of the cats decides to take up post right inside the bedroom door then the cats really give her hell. Those are the moments when we most regret having our cats de-clawed…something I will not go into at the moment but if you’ve come across this post and you’re considering it, please don’t. There is almost certainly another way to deal with your cats destroying your home.
But back to the point…there are bodies of animals littering our house. Ducks, cows, elephants, kangaroos (well, he’s still in the clinic actually – been too busy to repair him) , big furry balls that happen to be almost the same color as one of our cats…it’s like an animal graveyard in here. And as I saw Marilyn, our Lynx Point Siamese mix, looking at duckie today, who happens to be about the same size as her, it dawned on me that they may not quite understand what is going on here. On the other hand, hubby and I usually give our cats a lot of credit for being wildly intelligent…so who knows.
One thing is for sure – she doesn’t seem to like Duckie at all. That look of contempt on her face is priceless.
