Ayla’s fur mommy and sister came to play yesterday! Which meant the day started with a bit of brushing. We don’t do it nearly often enough lately, especially when Ayla’s damp (which is often) so I was hoping we wouldn’t get yelled out or anything.
The three girls had a lot of fun together, romping and wrestling around the farm. We really liked it because Ayla’s sister, Aika, is at least 10-20 pounds heavier than Ayla so Ayla didn’t get to dominate. Her fur-mommy Josie would step in when things got too rough and set them both straight and we’re hoping Ayla learned a few lessons. This was the first time in a while that Ayla’s shown submission to another dog so we’re hoping she’ll remember this experience when she starts thinking about bullying someone else now. And perhaps she will start to recognize that she needs to be less rough when playing with doggies like Amelie, the little Golden Retriever around the corner from us.
We didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I’d wanted to but the girls were just so cute I found myself loving on them more than actually photographing anything…so it goes. But we did get a few shots to share and hope the breeders will be sending a few photos they took as well.
This is Josie drinking from Ayla’s waterbowl. Aside from Josie being a little bit larger, you can barely tell the difference between her and Ayla. They have the same mannerisms and facial expressions…Ayla’s about as close to a clone as one could get…and hopefully over the next year she’ll grow a bit more like her mommy.
Josie again…looking very similar to our Ayla.
This is Aika. You can see a lot of her mommy in her face, but she’s got the Landseer markings from her daddy. Aika is a BIG girl…and apparently causing quite a few headaches at home. She refuses to stay in her yard, chews up everything and generally makes a nuissance of herself…which really made Ayla sound like an angel lol.
The breeders brought over a huge bone with them also. But since there was only one, I put it away and passed out some other filled rawhide bones for them. Ayla wasn’t really interested unless they were already in someone’s mouth…but I think she was mostly just looking for a way to get them to play with her. Not that she had much energy left anyway but she still felt the need to play 🙂
I figure it will take her at least a week to get through this thing. She’s not such a massive bone eater…she likes to savor them. If we give her a filled rawhide bone she mostly just eats the filling out, unrolls the bone until she can get everything out of it and then I toss out the rawhide. But this bone is going to be another story altogether.
Once everyone left, Ayla finally laid down for a break…not even enough energy to hold up her head lol. She slept a good part of the afternoon and didn’t even care about going for her evening walk – a sure sign that she’s outdone herself.
