Oh great furry ones,
Have you ever encountered something in your house which you thought was perfectly safe and harmless but suddenly watched it become dangerous and evil? It hasn’t happened to me often but the last few days I have been tormented by a HUGE cardboard tube that I’m sure must be possessed. The tube came into the house with my new rug (some say it’s Mackenzie’s but I totally use it more which makes it mine) and it just laid around for a while, occasionally becoming something for the baby to amuse herself with.
Normally, I’m a big fan of cardboard. Give me a box to eat and I’ll kill that thing before you even have time to pull out the camera and take photos. But this tube thing is just not natural. Dad was holding it the other day and it started to make all these strange noises. Sometimes I thought dad was inside the tube talking to me. Other times it sounded like the tube was growling at me and maybe wanted to eat me. I really don’t know what brought all this on but I was quite concerned.
Thankfully mom was down on the floor while this was going on and I was able to climb into her lap for protection. She hugged me close and told me it was going to be ok. And it was for a while. Until it started again. I had to sit perfectly still while the tube talked to me as I tried to resolve what it was really telling me.
Once the tube finally retreated from the room, I heaved a sigh of relief. Then I bathed mom with lots of thank you kisses for being so good to me and protecting me. I haven’t been this worked up about something since the Great Exploding Sky Incident of 2010. The humans called it New Years Eve but I think it was all out war.
Has something in your house totally freaked you out before? Maybe a trash can was moved and standing wrong in your yard, taunting you (that’s happened to me.) Or your family brought home something that totally messed up the flow of your domain so you had to bark at it? (Yeah, me again.) You must have a story for me, right? Do share so I know I’m not the only crazy pup out there!
Bark at you soon,
Ayla
Charlie is terrified of the vacuum. I bring it out and he runs in the other room…usually into the dining room under the dining table, until I come in there, then it is on to the bedroom to his bed until the evil demon is put away…
I usually love cardboard tubes myself, but I’m rethinking it after hearing about this.

Kevin’s bomb detection dog, Dax, flunked patrol school and is scarred by some of the more aggressive tactics they use with police dogs- to the point that now he is scared to death of us shaking out wrinkles while we fold clothes. Poor boy 🙁
@Jentry – I LOVE the vacuum. Pulling on my hair gently and sucking on my tongue. Ok, that just doesn’t sound right…
@Sopie – You really must be on your toes at all times. One never knows what harmless creature in your house could go rabid in a flash! ;o)
@Jennie – Poor Dax. Laundry day must be awful for him! Hopefully he doesn’t start thinking the laundry itself is the culprit or even the basket! That could turn into an interesting “game!”
Ayla –
Otto here, I’m the German Wirehair who has to share my abode with another mutt and two humans who cater to me ’cause I’m soooo cute.
When I go visit ‘Grandma’s’ house, she has this concrete kitty at the door! I don’t like it very much. It scares me so much sometimes, because the kitty looks like it wants to pounce on me, that my humans have to coax me in with treats or take me in another entrance… I’m just waiting for the time when that kitty isn’t looking. I’ll teach him!
Just came across your blog, very interesting story. I have been to Germany many times and loved it.. now living in Canada.
We just started our blog, please visit if you have time http://www.blueloom.com

Oh, your Newf is beautiful! Noah was our Newf, and he died several years ago, but we loved him so much. He was a mammoth at 225 lbs, but he lived to be 11, so we had many wonderful years with him.
(Oh, found you on MMB)
Thanks! Newfies are VERY special creatures. Ayla is our first and she really brightens our days. She is pretty small, somewhere around 100 pounds, but she makes up for her size in personality lol. Must be that recessive Landseer in her 😉 We keep saying next time we’ll get a REAL boy Newfie who will also hopefully be a mammoth lol
Thanks for dropping in!!
