ayla's thoughts

Hello all my wonderful anipals & human friends!

I know I’m a day late but what can you do? Mom was too busy to help me finish my post yesterday and she said that since it’s her birthday today, she can do what she wants to do. It’s her blog, after all.

Winter is arriving here in Germany and it’s like heaven on earth. Every day it seems to get a little bit colder (which is confirmed by the humans taking longer to get ready for the walks cause they’re putting on more and more clothes) and I keep hoping that snow is just around the corner. I still haven’t gotten to see much of it in the three years I’ve been here on Earth but the small amount I have seen was PAWESOME! You can play in it, you can eat it, it turns colors when you pee on it and it hold doggie memos in mid-air…virtual high five for the coolness of snow!

I was out walking with all the human family the other day and we ran into Dexter. He’s one of the newer pups on the block and he’s pretty cool I guess. He always tries to chew on my ears which I’m not a big fan of but he’s slowly outgrowing that so we have more fun together.

Have you met Dexter? He’s some sort of hunting dog. In fact, he actually does get to go hunting with his dad who is a forest worker here in Germany. Cool right?

As I mentioned, he likes to go after my ears. In fact, mom snapped a couple photos of him doing it. Despite what looks like a smile on my face in this shot, I assure you that I did not like the ear nipping and I firmly told him so! No means no, Dex! I mean look at him, he’s jumping in the air AND biting my ear! How’s that even possible?

Dexter and his mom decided to walk with us for a while because Dexter was SO excited to see us, and we made our way down to something I find very cool: a new dog water park just a few blocks away from us! It’s along the path where we usually walk and it used to be a little stream that I could splash in. But a couple weeks ago they came in with all these huge loud truck things and have been digging holes way bigger than I could manage in a day…and now there’s this super cool doggie water wonderland!

Mom is saying some nonsense about it being a re-naturalization project. I have no idea what that’s suposed to mean but I’m a dog, dogs are animals, animals are part of nature and therefore it’s for us dogs! It’s pretty nice, right? At the moment it’s like taking a vacation at the beach cause there’s so much bare sand and dirt. I have no idea if they’re going to leave it that way or plant grass…but it’s going to be the wrong time of year for most grass real soon anyway. You can see one of the huge trucks in the background that has been moving dirt around all this time.

Mom says they’re building this thing because there has been problems with flooding a little bit further downstream. It doesn’t happen often but apparently a local company needed a tax writeoff anyway so they’re building this. This stream is way wider than the old one, and there’s all these different cove-lets and stoney areas along the way to change the water patterns and so forth. Surprisingly enough, there is already quite a bit of water in some places. Personally I think this is the perfect depth cause I’ve never done all that much swimming in my life and I get a little freaked out when I can’t reach the bottom for a while.

You seriously cannot believe how different things look down there. They are actually continuing the relandscaping further downstream and are making little islands around trees and stuff. It’s really very nice. I can’t wait until the weekend so I can do some more swimming in there. The workers are already busy when we go by in the mornings, and when we go with dad at night it’s dark so I can’t play either. But this weekend, it’s on! Even if the water freezes to my fur. I love that cause later I can eat the ice off like little dirt popsicles.

I hope you’re having a woof-tastic week and I can’t wait to see what cool things happen in the coming week. There’s no snow yet in our forecast but I’m storing up my energy by taking lots of naps on the couch in the meantime.

Lots of Newfie kisses until next time,

Ayla
