The man who invented the döner kebab died this week. Sad news indeed. But as an almost tribute to him, we found out our little village is finally going to have a döner stand of its own.

We went out today to grab a cable for our new phone system (which we still haven’t got working but will take on anew tomorrow) and noticed that the shop that used to be our dry cleaners, now has a sign up announcing a new döner store. donerman_sm

Woohoo! Our town is officially on the map now.

If you’ve never been to Germany, a döner kebab is a piece of flat bread sliced open, then loaded up with meat shaved off a huge skewer, vegetables and lathered in yogurt sauce. Each store has their own secret recipes for the sauce, some adding in garlic, and you might get some picked cabbage also. Very, very good stuff!

Hopefully this new place will be one of the better ones…but any döner is better than none – especially when it’s within walking distance. Then we can split up our business between there and the Thai imbiss when we’re too tired to cook.
