I was reading a newsletter from parents.com this morning and saw a link to an article about swaddling. From what I’ve heard, some babies really love it so after reading how simple it is, we decided to give it a go. Well, Stefan did really. And as it would turn out, Mackenzie seems to love it.
We tried out “the burrito roll” method and it’s working well for us. If you try it out, your baby should be less than a month old; otherwise wrapping him up could inhibit motor skill development. Make sure you wrap the baby snugly. Mack’s sporting a very awesome blanket from her “Aunt” Katie & “cousin” Allie π
We’ve had a little trouble putting Mackenzie to bed the past few nights and she’s been a bit grumpy when we put her in her crib alone. But tonight we put her to bed looking like a big burrito and she’s sleeping better than ever before. We hope that the trend will continue…but it’s a bit freaky when she sleeps so deeply. She’s certainly never seemed more comfortable before – and it’s pretty cute seeing her all wrapped up like an egg roll too.
I hope she keeps enjoying it! Brayden ended up hating it after the first week and now won’t let us do it at all!
Oh no. Well at least it was good for a little peace…and hopefully he’s just outgrown it already and is still sleeping like a little lamb for you π
She loved it last night… barely woke up at all during the night and much more soothed today so far.
All three of our kids loved being swaddled for at least a couple of months. My Mister is the king of swaddling. He lays them on the blanket, pins their arms down, wraps one side around and tucks it under their body, wraps the bottom up over their feet, and then tucks the other side around and under their body. It is TIGHT. They can’t wiggle themselves out of it.
I couldn’t stand to be wrapped up like that, but I guess since babies movements are so spastic, it’s calming for them to not be constantly scaring themselves with jerky arm movements.
She looks like a very sweet baby!
I should add, we only swaddle them when they’re sleeping, for the reason you mentioned, plus, as they get older, they don’t like to be swaddled when they’re trying to interact. π
How cool! I am really enjoying these little bits you’re sharing about discoveries as a mom. Congrats on the beautiful girl, Tiffany!

Love the blanket and glad it came in handy! Good colors for her! π Allie never really liked to be swaddled.. maybe for a week or two.. she really only liked free… still does.. you can’t put a blanket on her (with any warmth significance) until after she’s Asleep..
BTW, I love that some of the people who replied are An Allie and A Katie π
