As you may know, we had our first race on Saturday, so one of my outfits was my racing gear. It’s not exactly on the cutting edge of stylish but it does the trick. At the moment, we’re transitioning from warm to cold weather gear and trying to find just the right balance between being warm enough while running that your skin never feels cold (which I something I detest and is hard to accomplish when the temperature is hovering near freezing) and not sweating to death either.
My current running gear is a white Nike hat that I borrowed from Stefan (although I’m probably going to be transitioning to a headband that covers my ears instead soon — I tried running in both the headband and the hat yesterday which was an epic fail), lightweight running tights and a lightweight jacket from Lidl (a discount store here in Germany that has a different collection of stuff each week that might include gardening tools, a new PC, running gear, kid’s stuff or who knows what), a short sleeve running shirt underneath and, of course, a running bra. I’m sure that at some point in the near future I will go into further detail about what I really think of these clothes, so runners — stay tuned! π
Something else I’ve been sporting lately is my new black gem plugs. I don’t really know what it is about gem plugs, but at some point a few weeks after you’ve been wearing them, one of the gems will fall out. To say it’s annoying is an understatement. So I’ve gone from clear ones to black these days…
What are sporting this week? Galoshes and rain gear after Sandy? All bundled up and trying to stay warm?

Being covered but not HOT is always a challenge. We live in Richmond, VA and I never need anything fleece. I have a very lightweight ear cover, and gloves that just keep my hands protected. Runners’ World has a great tool that can help you choose what to wear: http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/whattowear/0,7152,s6-240-325-330-0-0-0-0-0,00.html
Thanks Amanda. I’ve seen that tool before. Super practical. But I always cringe a little when I see the shorts with a vest & short sleeve shirt suggestion for our current temps π
i know exactly what you mean. in all honesty, i think that tool is partially to sell clothes π i have “rules” about what i wear. anything 60 and above: shorts and t-shirt.
50-59: shorts and a long-sleeve shirt. sometimes capri tights.
below that: tights, long-sleeve shirt, and whatever else you need for the conditions.
of course, i change depending on how it feels (sometimes 53 is nice and crisp, sometimes it’s windy, damp and COLD!!)
We’ve got one of those cold, damp days here today. I’m not necessarily looking forward to the run later. In fact, it’s drizzling again now. Makes it quite unpleasant — especially when pushing a jogging stroller with a 4 year old inside lol. But today is our speed training today so it may end up going a bit faster than the usual long runs.
