After we got back from the evening walk with Ayla yesterday, we were partaking of our usual routine which involves checking on our container garden in the courtyard and watering all the plants. Ayla is generally obliged to lie in the courtyard and just observe everything going on. But yesterday we also had to take down our big lantern since the fest is officially over (so sad but true), so we had Ayla still on leash by the front gate. Stefan had to go outside and didn’t want her trying to make a dash for it (although we both sometimes think that we might have more hair if we did just let her run in the busy street outside).

Once we had the lantern down, I let Ayla off the leash…and she walk right over to my sunglasses which were laying on the front steps (didn’t want them getting hurt while we took down the lantern and I hadn’t opened the front door yet), grabbed them in her mouth and took off.

I must have sounded really threatening when I yelled out her name then, because she paused, spit out the glasses and kept on running toward the barn. Thankfully they only have on scuff on them and survived far better than Stefan’s which she ate on Monday. You’d think we’d learn since she ate another pair of sunglasses 2 years ago! But no. We like finding reasons to be mad at her and then realizing we’re really the stupid ones and can only blame ourselves.

Thankfully the lenses on his are still fine but she has mangled the frame a bit. Perhaps he can find a way to repair them until he is in the U.S. the next time on business. Then they will be exchanged at Sunglasses Hut where we bought them. I just hope they still have the same glasses in stock. Although we just bought them in April so we will hopefully be in luck. We specifically asked the sales guy if a dog eating the sunglasses was actually covered in their insurance policy when he was pitching it to us and were quite surprised when he said yes. I guess we’ll see if they really mean it!
